And Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. And dividing His garments, they cast a lot. Psa. 22:18

Comment

Forgiveness and payment for His people’s sins comes from The Father through the work and person of Jesus Christ conditioned on Jesus Christ’s effectual atoning shed blood and His imputed Righteousness alone. Hebrews 9:22

God promises to save His people from their sins. All that the Father gives to Jesus Christ for salvation will come to Jesus and will come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved from their sins and be raised up in the last day.

They will receive His imputed Righteousness at the time of God given faith in that Gospel and they will become the children of God

God’s justice is satisfied; making God a just God, a justifier, and a savior Matthew 1:21, Matthew 16:16-18, Acts 20:28 Matthew 13:16, Matthew 11:27-30, John 6:37-44, 65, John 10, John 17:1-3, Romans 3:9-27, Romans 4:3-8, Ephesians 1:5, 2 Thessalonians 2:23, Isaiah 45:21

1 Corinthians 2:8

which none of the rulers of this age has known. For if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;

God given illuminated knowledge to His people through Jesus Christ is the fruit of salvation. To know the only true God and Jesus Christ is everlasting life and is a gift from God to His people who were dead in sins and trespasses. Ephesians 1 & 2 2 Corinthians 4:6,

John 17: 1-6

Jesus spoke these things and lifted up His eyes to Heaven, and said, Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may also glorify You,

as You gave to Him authority over all flesh, so that to all which You gave to Him, He may give to them everlasting life.

And this is everlasting life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

I have glorified You on the earth. I finished the work that You gave Me to do.

And now Father, glorify Me with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the existence of the world.

I revealed Your name to the men whom You gave to Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You gave them to Me; and they have kept Your Word.

Matthew 11:27-30

All things were yielded up to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him .

Come to Me, all those laboring and being burdened, and I will give you rest.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, because I am meek and lowly in heart, “and you will find rest to your souls.” Jer. 6:16

For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light

2 Corinthians 4:6

Because it is God who said, “Out of darkness Light shall shine,” who shone in our hearts to give the brightness of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Isa. 42:6, 7, 16

Romans 10:1-4

Brothers, truly my heart’s pleasure and supplication to God on behalf of Israel is for it to be saved.

For I testify to them that they have zeal to God, but not according to knowledge.

For being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to the righteousness of God.

For Christ is the end of law for righteousness to everyone that believes.

1 Corinthians 1:18

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 2:14

But a natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them , because they are spiritually discerned.

Comment

Above we discover the unsaved Israelites lacked the knowledge of the righteousness of God through the work and person of Jesus Christ. They did not know that any effort or working from them does not earn salvation.

Salvation is the gift of God through His mercy conditioned on the atoning shed blood and imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ through God given faith in that Gospel.

We also learn from 1 Corinthians 2:14 that a natural man does not accept the things of the spirit and is not able to understand spiritual things because they are spiritually discerned. Romans 8:8 , Romans 3:8-10 Mark 16:15-16, John 6:29, Ephesians 2:8-10, Hebrews 9:22 Romans 9:15, 16, 18, Romans 9:11

They did not know that the foundation of someone’s salvation was the work of Jesus Christ and that no man can lay that foundation other than Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:10-15

He was the perfect sacrifice; the perfect substitute for His promised people. He and He alone satisfied the needed justice to God on behalf of His promised people both Jew and Gentile Revelation 5:9, 7:9 Hebrews 10:1-18

In Romans 10:1-4 we also discover that salvation is in the hands of God; since, The Apostle Paul is praying to God for his unsaved kinsmen’s salvation according to the flesh.

Salvation is totally the work of God.
