Matthew 12:40
And even as “Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights,” so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. Jon. 1:17
John 11:9
Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of the world.
John 11:10
But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles because the light is not in him.
Comment
Jesus said there are 12 hours in the day. I assume there are 12 hours in the night and 24 hours in the day and night total for each passing day.
Jesus said He would be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. 3 x 24 gives a total span of time of 72 hours. God is able to fulfill prophecy down to the exact moment. Isaiah 46:10, Romans 11:36
Question: If Jesus died at about or around 3:00 PM according to scripture Matthew 27:45-50 in the afternoon, what day from that point to the resurrection would 72 hours land on? What day of the week did He die?
Matthew 27:45-50
45 And from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.( 3:00 PM)
46 And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani; that is, “My God, My God, why did You forsake Me?” Psa. 22:1
47 And hearing, some of those standing there said, This one calls Elijah.
48 And at once, one of them running and taking a sponge, and filling it with “vinegar,” put it on a reed and “gave drink to Him.” Psa. 69:21
49 But the rest said, Let be; let us see if Elijah is coming to save Him.
50 And crying again with a loud voice, Jesus released His spirit.
“Good Friday is the day on which Catholics commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Catholics are joined by almost all other Christians in solemn commemoration on this day. It is also a legal holiday around much of the world.”
Comment – If Jesus died at around 3:00 PM ( ninth hour) on Friday then 72 hours from that point, being laid in the tomb within the 3 hour period would point to a MONDAY resurrection day in the afternoon between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM ; but when Mary Magdalene and Mary came to the tomb, it was early Sunday morning and Jesus had already risen; but when did He rise? Was the time of the resurrection between 3:00-6:00 PM on Saturday?
Saturday between 3:00 -6:00 PM would be the closest ending 72 hour duration time period needed to rise from the dead since He died at 3:00 PM which supports why He was gone already Sunday morning.
This rising time matches being put into the tomb between 3:00 -6:00 PM prior while considering a duration time of exactly 72 hours of being in the tomb which matches the exact target time of rising between 3:00-6:00 PM Saturday.
He had already left the tomb early Sunday morning when they arrived. He must have been put in the tomb on Wednesday sometime between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM matching the closest time to rise previously to Sunday morning at 3:00-6:00 PM Saturday. He, once again, had already risen and was gone early Sunday morning.
Question: What day did they lay Him in the tomb? It appears it was Wednesday between 3:00-6:00 PM when He was placed in the tomb.
Luke 23:55
And also women were following, who were accompanying Him out of Galilee, who watched the tomb, and how His body was placed.
Luke 23:56
And returning, they prepared spices and ointment. And indeed they rested on the sabbath, according to the commandment.
What day did they return and prepare the spices and ointment? It appears they returned after they watched the body being placed in the tomb on the same day. It appears to be Wednesday. (No other day fits the needed time between crucifixion, the sabbaths and the resurrection).
They rested the next day on the High Sabbath ( 1 of 7 annual Sabbaths) on Thursday after the placing of the body in the tomb and the preparing of spices and ointments on Wednesday and would of rested on the weekly Sabbath on Saturday. They must have purchased (more ??) spices and (no ointment) on Friday; the only day available to purchase.
Mark 16:1
And the sabbath passing ( Thursday?), Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome, bought spices, so that coming they might anoint Him. (1993 Greens LITV)
And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. ( KJV)
Question: What Sabbath was this that passed? What day was this Sabbath?
Question: What Sabbath passed to allow them to buy the spices the next day ( Mark 16:1) . They could not have bought the spices on Saturday because that was the weekly Sabbath day of rest. So, they must have bought ( more) spices on Friday after the Thursday Sabbath which was the special Sabbath, passed.
In Luke 23:56 they prepared spices and ointment on what appears to be the crucifixion day in Mark 16:1 .
Did they find they needed more spices when preparing the spices and ointment in Luke 23:56 on the crucifixion day because they bought spices after the Sabbath which couldn’t be the weekly Sabbath because they would of rested and He was already gone early on Sunday morning when they arrived at the tomb?
Even though they prepared spices and ointment on the crucifixion day , they never bought ointment later when they bought spices.
They went to visit the tomb very early Sunday morning. He was already risen and gone; but what time did He rise?
Matthew 28:1
But after the sabbaths, at the dawning of the first of the sabbaths, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the grave. (1993 Green LITV)
Now after the Sabbath toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. (ESV)
Comment
So, if Thursday and Saturday were both Sabbath rest days with no opportunity to buy spices on those 2 Sabbaths and the tomb was empty on Sunday; then
Friday must have been the only day to buy ( additional?) spices since they prepared spices and ointments on the crucifixion day.
Since, the scripture says in Luke 23:55 they watched Him be placed in the tomb, it must have been the day of the crucifixion, Wednesday
A Friday crucifixion would have generated a Monday resurrection using a time period of 72 hours, exactly 3 days and 3 nights to correlate to Jonah’s time in the big fishes’ belly.
Wednesday must have been the day Jesus Christ was crucified and 72 hours later would have generated a resurrection on Saturday between 3:00 and 6:00 PM
Quote from The New Official Catholic Catechism
“We all gather on the day of the sun … on this same day Jesus Christ our Savior rose from the dead.” From the “Church Father,” St. Justin. Quoted in the New Official Catholic Catechism (1994), p. 524.
Question: Why is there a venerable day of the sun?
The Babylonians supposedly were SUN worshippers. One version of the story states after Nimrod who was the great grandson of Noah died,, his wife, Semiramis, became pregnant and claimed Tammuz, her son, was the product of Nimrod who became the SUN god after he died. She said she became pregnant from the SUN god who was Nimrod.
The Babylonians supposedly were worshippers of 36 heavenly bodies. The SUN being number 1 and the moon number 2 and the rest were numbered from 3-36. The number 666 was assigned to the Sun which was in control of all the other 35 heavenly bodies. To arrive at the number 666, all numbers from 1-36 were added up to generate a total of 666. The Babylonians thought numbers had power. The number 666 was assigned to the SUN god having the ultimate power over all other heavenly bodies with the potential of controlling evil from all heavenly bodies that might be perpetrated against you. That is why they wore amulets with the numbers of the heavenly bodies listed to appease the pagan want to be deities

Romans 1:18-23
For God’s wrath is revealed from Heaven on all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, holding the truth in unrighteousness,
because the thing known of God is clearly known within them, for God revealed it to them.
for the unseen things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things made, both His eternal power and Godhead, for them to be without excuse.
Because knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful. But they became vain in their reasonings, and their undiscerning heart was darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became foolish
and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into a likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.
Because of this, God gave them up to impurity in the lusts of their hearts, their bodies to be dishonored among themselves,
who changed the truth of God into the lie, and worshiped and served the created thing more than the Creator, who is blessed forever.
Question: Why would anyone label a day “ The Day of The SUN”?
Why would anyone call out “ The venerable Day of The SUN”?
Considering the scriptures, I doubt the resurrection of Jesus Christ would have happened on the pagan holiday of “The venerable day of the Sun”
Please note: The SUN is a created thing that in no way deserves to be venerated or honored. We are not to worship a created thing.
John 1:1-3,14,18
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 He was in the beginning with God.3 All things came into being through Him, and without Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being.4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men;
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of [the] only begotten of [the] Father, full of grace and truth.
18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, that One declares Him .
1 Corinthians 10:31
31 Then whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things to the glory of God
Romans 16:27
to the only wise God through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever. Amen.
If 72 hours in the tomb equates to 3 days and 3 nights and there was a special Sabbath on Thursday during the crucifixion week and if they bought spices after that Sabbath on Friday which appears to be the only day possible and rested on the weekly Sabbath on Saturday and Jesus had already risen prior to their arrival Sunday morning, then the biblical account does appear to generate a Wednesday crucifixion day and a Resurrection day of Saturday.
There are 2 scriptures alone that enable a direct interpretation of a Saturday afternoon or evening resurrection.
If Jesus released the spirit at 3:00 PM, the ninth hour and if He spent 3 days and 3 nights or 72 hours in the heart of the earth, then there is no choice other than a Saturday afternoon or evening resurrection; along with considering the fact that He was gone from the tomb early Sunday morning
So, why was Sunday promoted as the day of resurrection?
