Was Jesus helpless in Matthew 23:37?

God blesses His people with eyes to see and ears to hear and a heart to understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Matthew 23:37

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one killing the prophets and stoning those sent to her. How often I desired to gather your children in the way a bird gathers her chicks under her wings! And you did not desire it.

Jesus would have taught their children if they would have desired to send them.

Was Jesus acknowledging that the Pharisees and the like minded had more power than He possessed; since He desired to gather their children under His wings; but the Pharisees and like minded did not desire to send them to Jesus for teaching?

Was Jesus helpless and in subjection to the Pharisees and the like minded and all who resist coming to Him?

Answer: Not according to scripture. Isaiah 46:10 Psalm 115:3 and Job 23:13 say God does all that He desires to do and He promises to save His people and those people are All that the Father gives to Him. Matthew 1:21 John 6:37-44

How can God save anyone that is under the wings of the Pharisees and like minded if they were in control of who comes to Jesus?

In addition, according to Romans 3:10-12 There is not one seeking (the true)God; There is not a righteous one not even one and there is not one understanding.

Scripture does interpret scripture and does answer the question of who is in control, God or man?

Was Jesus helplessly in subjection to the Pharisee’s desires?

Was Jesus contradicting John 6:37-44 that says “All that The Father gives Him Will come to Him and that all that come to Him He will not cast away.

Jesus knew nothing would stop the Father from giving and causing His people to come to Him; not even the Pharisees because God promised to save His people.

So, why did Jesus tell the Pharisees that he desired to gather their children under His wings and acknowledge the Pharisees didn’t desire it?

It seems self evident from scripture He wanted to hold them accountable and that He as a man and the true teacher had the desire to teach their children and take them under His wings.

Jesus knew for sure that if the Father desired any or all of their children to come to Him, they would come regardless of what the Pharisees and like minded desired?

Was He contradicting those scriptures that said He will not lose one that the Father draws to Him and gives to Him.

No, of course not, Jesus cannot contradict scripture.

Keep in mind that Jesus was The Word was God and with God who became flesh. He was the Godhead bodily and a man doing the Will of His Father. The spirit was given to Jesus without measure.

John 1:1-3,14 John 3:34 Colossians 2:9-10

In John 3:1-2 we see that Nicodemus was a man from the Pharisees, a ruler of the Jews.

Nicodemus believed Jesus was a teacher sent from God. The Pharisees viewed Jesus as nothing but a teacher.

So, it isn’t surprising that Jesus was addressing the Pharisees in Matthew 23:37 in the manner of true teacher conversing with false teachers; making sure they knew they were accountable.

Jesus wasn’t revealing His helplessness in the sight of the Pharisees. He was holding them accountable for not desiring their children to come to Him for teaching.

Remember, they only thought He was a teacher and they did not have ears to hear or a heart to understand the truth. They did not know Him. He was talking teacher to teacher.

Supporting from scripture that Jesus wasn’t at the mercy of the Pharisees Please note, Jesus as a man thanked His Father for hiding these things from the wise and prudent while revealing them to babes.

Here we have proof that God is in control and reveals himself to whomever He chooses.

So, the Pharisees having no desire to send their children to Jesus does not in anyway show Jesus was in subjection to the Pharisees.

Luke 10:21-22

21 In the same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit, and said, I praise You, Father, Lord of Heaven and of earth, that You hid these things from the sophisticated and learned and revealed them to babes; yes, Father, because so it was pleasing before You.

22 All things were given over to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is if not the Father; and who is the Father, if not the Son, and he to whom the Son may desire to reveal Him.

Also, please note in the scriptures below that Jesus tells His disciples what to do about the blind and their leaders.

Matthew 15:13-14

12 Then coming, the disciples said to Him, You know that hearing the Word, the Pharisees were stumbled?

13 But answering, He said, Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up.

14 Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind; and if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.

Conclusion

The Father did not plant the plant of the Pharisees and their followers. Jesus said leave the blind leaders and the blind followers alone and since we know that All The Father gives to Jesus Will come and Jesus will not lose anyone given by the Father, then the main point for the conversation between the Pharisees and Jesus was to hold them accountable for not sending their children to Him and to let them know as the true teacher they should have encouraged their children to come to Him.

As a man and a teacher Jesus would desire to teach and to instruct while He was trusting and relying on the Father to effectually draw and bring His people to Him.

Romans 9:19 says

You will then say to me, Why does He yet find fault? For who has resisted His will?

The answer to the above is no one can resist His will. Man cannot interfere or thwart God’s decretive Will because from scripture , God will do all His desires.

So, if it is the Father’s Will to drag or draw a person or persons to Jesus, then The Pharisees or the like minded won’t be able to stop them from coming.

If God wants to break down the wall of darkness and blindness (lack of knowledge ) by shining the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ into their hearts, He will accomplish His Will to do so; for no one or no thing can resist His will.

Jesus let the Pharisees know they were accountable for their lack of willingness to send their children.

Jesus having the desire to gather their children under His wings in no way says He was not in control and at the mercy of the Pharisees or that The Will of man ruled over God.

He knew nothing could stop His people from coming to Him if the Father drew them and chose them from before the foundation of the world because He promised to save His people.
