Matthew 12:40

And even as “Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights,” so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. Jon. 1:17

John 11:9

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of the world.

John 11:10

But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles because the light is not in him.

Comment

Jesus said there are 12 hours in the day. I assume there are 12 hours in the night and 24 hours in the day and night total for each passing day.

Comment– Just so no one gets confused. John 10:18 tells us Jesus voluntarily laid His life down and no one takes it from him. He laid down His life for His sheep; so they could be saved from their sins.

John 10:18

No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down from Myself. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it again. I received this commandment from My Father. See John 10:15, Isaiah 53

47 And hearing, some of those standing there said, This one calls Elijah.

48 And at once, one of them running and taking a sponge, and filling it with “vinegar,” put it on a reed and “gave drink to Him.” Psa. 69:21

49 But the rest said, Let be; let us see if Elijah is coming to save Him.

50 And crying again with a loud voice, Jesus released His spirit.

“Good Friday is the day on which Catholics commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Catholics are joined by almost all other Christians in solemn commemoration on this day. It is also a legal holiday around much of the world.”

Mark 15:42-43

And it becoming evening already, since it was the preparation, that is, the day before sabbath,

Joseph of Arimathea came, an honorable councillor, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God. And taking courage, he went in to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus.

John 19:31

Then, since it was Preparation, that the bodies not remain on the cross on the sabbath, for great was the day of that sabbath, the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and they be taken away.

John 19:33

But on coming to Jesus, when they saw He was dead already, they did not break His legs.

(Psalm 34:20)

Luke 23:55

And also women were following, who were accompanying Him out of Galilee, who watched the tomb, and how His body was placed.

And returning, they prepared spices and ointment. And indeed they rested on the sabbath, according to the commandment.

Mark 16:9

And having risen early on the first of the sabbath, He first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons.

Question: They prepared spices and ointment on the day of the crucifixion before the High Sabbath. They rested on the High Sabbath and then bought spices after the High Sabbath rest day on the next day. Is this true? It appears the scriptures say this. See reference charts below

Did they find they needed more spices when preparing the spices and ointment in Luke 23:56 on the crucifixion day. So, they bought more spices the day after the High Sabbath or the great sabbath day.

Concordant literal New Testament Saugus, Ca 91356 1966

Matthew 28:1

But late in ( the) sabbaths, at the dawning into ( the) first of (the) sabbaths, Mary the Magdalene and the other Mary came to gaze upon the grave.

John 20:1

But on the first of the sabbaths, Mary Magdalene came early in the morning to the tomb, (it) yet being dark. And (she) sees the stone having been taken away from the tomb.

Comment

Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to the empty tomb on the weekly Sabbath in the early morning. Jesus had already risen. If Jesus hadn’t ascended to the Father before talking to Mary Magdalene; then maybe, He hadn’t been risen for very long.

John 20:17

Jesus said to her, Do not touch Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father. But go to My brothers and say to them, I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God, and your God.

John 20:19

Then it being evening on that day, the first of the sabbaths, and the doors having been locked where the disciples were gathered together because of fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood in the midst and said to them, Peace to you.

Quote from The New Official Catholic Catechism

“We all gather on the day of the sun … on this same day Jesus Christ our Savior rose from the dead.” From the “Church Father,” St. Justin. Quoted in the New Official Catholic Catechism (1994), p. 524.

Question: Why is there a venerable day of the sun?

The Babylonians supposedly were SUN worshippers. One version of the story states after Nimrod who was the great grandson of Noah died,, his wife, Semiramis, became pregnant and claimed Tammuz, her son, was the product of Nimrod who became the SUN god after he died. She said she became pregnant from the SUN god who was Nimrod.

The Babylonians supposedly were worshippers of 36 heavenly bodies. The SUN being number 1 and the moon number 2 and the rest were numbered from 3-36. The number 666 was assigned to the Sun which was in control of all the other 35 heavenly bodies. To arrive at the number 666, all numbers from 1-36 were added up to generate a total of 666. The Babylonians thought numbers had power. The number 666 was assigned to the SUN god having the ultimate power over all other heavenly bodies with the potential of controlling evil from all heavenly bodies that might be perpetrated against you. That is why they wore amulets with the numbers of the heavenly bodies listed to appease the pagan want to be deities

Romans 1:18-23

For God’s wrath is revealed from Heaven on all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, holding the truth in unrighteousness,

because the thing known of God is clearly known within them, for God revealed it to them.

for the unseen things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things made, both His eternal power and Godhead, for them to be without excuse.

Because knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful. But they became vain in their reasonings, and their undiscerning heart was darkened.

Professing to be wise, they became foolish

and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into a likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.

Because of this, God gave them up to impurity in the lusts of their hearts, their bodies to be dishonored among themselves,

who changed the truth of God into the lie, and worshiped and served the created thing more than the Creator, who is blessed forever.

Question: Why would anyone label a day “ The Day of The SUN”?

Why would anyone call out “ The venerable Day of The SUN”?

Considering the scriptures, I doubt the resurrection of Jesus Christ would have happened on the pagan holiday of “The venerable day of the Sun”

Please note: The SUN is a created thing that in no way deserves to be venerated or honored. We are not to worship a created thing.

John 1:1-3,14,18

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 He was in the beginning with God.3 All things came into being through Him, and without Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being.4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men;

14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of [the] only begotten of [the] Father, full of grace and truth.

18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, that One declares Him .

1 Corinthians 10:31

31 Then whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things to the glory of God

Romans 16:27

to the only wise God through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever. Amen.

So, why was Sunday promoted as the day of resurrection?

Things to consider that we know from the above scripture.

  1. Condemned to death at about 6:00 AM (Roman time)
  2. Crucified -3rd hour of morning or 9:00 AM
  3. Sun went dark from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM
  4. Jesus gave up spirit at 3:00 PM
  5. Body in tomb between 3:00 -6:00 PM before Sabbath begins at 6:00 PM
  6. Women watched body being put in tomb; then went to prepare spices and ointments
  7. The women rested on High Sabbath next day
  8. Purchased spices after High Sabbath day rest; the next day
  9. Mary Magdalene Visited empty tomb early the next day at or before sunrise on the weekly Sabbath. Resurrection 6:00 AM on weekly Sabbath ( 3 days, 3 nights-
  10. When Jesus met Mary Magdalene at early dawn, He had not yet ascended to the Father. Does that mean he had risen just before seeing Mary Magdalene?
  11. Jesus said He would be in the heart of the earth 3 days and 3 nights. (Notice he said days first in the rotation )
  12. How you define “ Heart of the Earth” is important. Does it mean core of the earth as land or does it mean in the captivity of the sinful minds and thoughts (Hearts) of the sinful inhabitants of the earth or all inclusive?
  13. When Jesus resurrected, He conquered all.
  14. Is a Sunday resurrection a tradition making void the word of God? It is definitely worth further investigation. Mark 7:13
