2 Peter 2:1 (KJ 3) translation

But there also came to be false prophets among the people, as also among you will be false teachers who will secretly bring destructive heresies, even denying the One having bought them, the Master, bringing swift destruction on themselves

They weren’t known as false teachers in the beginning when they first confessed belief in the atonement … but had brought in “secretly” destructive heresies “ even denying the having bought them”….. The master they originally said bought them but later they brought in secretly destructive heresies that would even deny the one they claimed originally bought them showing they never truly believed.
